In material science, WEAR is the erosion of material from a solid surface by the action of another solid.
The study of the process WEAR is part of the discipline of Tribology, which covers the five principle wear processes:

1. Adhesive
2. Abrasive
3. Surface Fatigue
4. Fretting
5. Erosion
